Supporting school and education staff

This comprehensive 2-day training on suicide prevention and postvention is for Queensland Department of Education specialist support staff, including psychologists, social workers and guidance officers supporting students in primary and secondary school contexts. 

 

Outcome

Key Outcomes:

To understand the prevalence and impact of suicide in Australia, with statistics highlighting the severity of the issue.

To build understanding of and address the factors causing suicidal distress, with a focus on reducing distress, and accessing supports for students and educators.


 

Key Understandings:

Understanding suicide as a complex issue influenced by various social determinants and individual factors, including mental illness, substance abuse, and socioeconomic conditions

The critical importance of incorporating empathic and relational practices and social and emotional wellbeing into school-culture, especially for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and educators.
