Description
Face-to-face workshop | 4 August 2026 | South Melbourne | 9.00am-3.30pm
Anti-racism education is essential, yet without careful attention to pedagogy, well-intentioned teaching can inadvertently cause harm. This full-day workshop, delivered by The MacKillop Institute and Click Against Hate, equips educators with practical, trauma-aware strategies for facilitating difficult conversations about racism while upholding safety, professional boundaries, and "do no harm" principles. Grounded in MacKillop's ReLATE model of trauma-informed education and the Click Against Hate curriculum framework, participants move from theory to applied practice, designing and rehearsing classroom-ready lesson sequences using a structured engage–educate–discuss–reflect approach.
Designed for classroom teachers, curriculum leaders, wellbeing coordinators, and school leaders across all year levels.
Outcome
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
-Define "teaching without harm" in the context of anti-racism education and identify common unintended harms such as tokenism, forced disclosure, and uncontained debate.
-Apply ReLATE trauma-informed pedagogy foundations to establish psychologically safe learning conditions, including counter-stress routines, co-regulation strategies, and structured reflection.
-Recognise signs of learner distress and respond using evidence-informed co-regulation and counter-stress strategies.
-Design and rehearse a classroom-ready two-lesson mini-sequence with facilitation notes and reflection prompts, tailored to their own context.
-Develop an implementation plan that positions their learning within broader curriculum and wellbeing structures, with a briefing script for colleagues and leaders.
Price: $199 per participant. Discounts apply if buying multiple tickets or tickets to this workshop and the Managing Conflict workshop on 5th August. Please email for further information.
